I have begun to develop a technique using dry wall plaster and acrylic paint that allows both carving and layering of coloured plaster in order to create three dimensionality on a two dimensional surface. Plaster is worked with various tools, both when it is wet and after it dries, and many layers are applied within one painting. Sometimes the plaster is combined with various textured acrylic media.

The presence of bulky shapes emerging out of the plane of the painting adds complexity to the interpretation of the relations of the objects in the painting, such as in "Chromatic Tectonics" and "Macrophage Melee". The interpretation of "Earthflower", "Earth, Sky and Sun", and "Night Tide" is stretched by the incorporation of topology in the image. In "Conversation" the three personalities seem to overlap and impinge on each other in the third dimension. In "Fractures" the surface mimics and sometimes confuses the perception of water. "Fractures" is a hybrid because it gives depth both by physical material and by tricking the eye.
